Directions (SERVES 1)

  • Fill a large wine glass with ice

  • Add

  • Give it a little stir

The Winter Citrus Spritz lets you play with different colors and balances of tart and sweet, so check out your local market to see what fun citrus are available at this time of year. We recently found some ripe minneolas (a tangy cross between a tangerine and a grapefruit) that were delicious in this drink. Here are some other citrus varieties that work well.

Blood Oranges: striking dark red flesh with a hint of tart berry flavor

Clementine: small and sweet, a perennial favorite

Cara Cara: bright orange rind, pinkish/red inside, very sweet

Satsuma: type of mandarin with a super-sweet tangerine flavor

Pro Tips: Since the strongest flavors in this drink come from the Aperol and juice, you don’t need to go overboard and use the most expensive prosecco. We recommend a good mid-range brand like Zonin, Zardetto, or La Marca.

Also, for an extra aromatic layer add a sprig of fresh rosemary to the finished cocktail. The fragrant, piney herb is a great complement to this drink.

Salut!
